First of all, if you're not sure whether something is or isn't against the rules, remember that this is an anoncomm and the worst that can happen is that the comments get frozen or deleted.

But if you're really confused by or concerned about WG's moderation policies, here's a more in-depth explanation of the spirit of the law, what each rule is and isn't trying to prevent, and why they were instated.

1. DON'T POST ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION!! This includes, but is not limited to, any of the following: Pictures, real name, address, phone number, or anything else like that. We don't care if it's 'public information.' Don't fucking post it. This includes links to external pages through which individuals could easily be "doxxed".
This one is really self-explanatory. You might have the best of intentions, but spreading personally identifying information is a great way to enable people to harass DWRPers IRL. If you have some extreme edge case where you think identifying someone IRL is appropriate because they're going to commit some kind of crime, PM a mod, contact DW staff, or find some avenue of doing so that isn't doxxing them publicly on an anoncomm.
2. Don't leak locked Dreamwidth entries, as this is against the DW ToS. Locked DW entries may be discussed, paraphrased, or summarized, but screencaps, pastebins, and copy-pasted text are not allowed.
Nice and simple. This is against ToS, don't do it.
3. No harassing people. No bullying. You are always free to post RP threads or pastebins here to point and laugh at bad characterization or bad OOC behavior in the community, but do not encourage people to take wank off of WG. Do not encourage anons to contact or personally attack players under discussion. Do not encourage anons to act out of spite to hurt players under discussion. Thread offshoots that cross over into harassment will be deleted. If a wank topic becomes inherently abusive and linked to severe harassment, it may be at risk for total deletion on sight.

3a. Reasonable exceptions will be made for reasonable actions, like taking civil criticisms to HMDs, contacting game or meme mods with evidence of abusive behavior, or reaching out to defuse toxic situations.
I'd like to think this one is also pretty self-explanatory.

You CAN encourage people to:
- post crit to HMDs
- tell people "if you've had problems with this player, please contact the game mods"
- tell people "have you tried to resolve this situation with the player yet? you should tell them how you feel"

You CAN'T encourage people to:
- anonymously insult or harass players on HMDs or memes
- PM players about situations the PMing party isn't actually involved in
- "dogpile" off-comm discussions on memes, game OOC posts, or plurks

Obviously we can't control what people do off-comm in response to wank, but if threads start to take a tone encouraging or congratulating harassment, they're gonna get modded.

We've had cases before of threads like "wow look at this shitty player" "someone should tag them doing this and this" "i did it" "omg good for you" and that is not allowed.
4. Threads "fishing" for wank baselessly are at risk for deletion. This rule covers, in particular, threads that namedrop a player without recent suspicion/experience/proof of wanky behavior, threads that exhaustively list the accounts of targeted players, and threads aimed at digging up the player or past of a certain account without any observed present wrongdoing. This rule is not meant to prevent identification of players known for stalking, harassing, or chronically abusive behavior. This rule does not require that all namedrops include "hard evidence" of wrongdoing. It exists to prevent drama from being "manufactured" and simply asks that discussions begin with a focus on current developments; this rule will be always be enforced with context in mind, and with sensitivity to exceptional cases.
This seems to be the one people are most wound up about.

Some specific examples of threads this rule aims to prevent:

- "This person breathed in the vicinity of a shitty player/meme, who are they and have they done anything wanky"
- "This person has borders on their icons/underscores in their name/uses asterisks instead of brackets, who are they and have they done anything wanky"
- "This game just opened, who is modding it/who is apping to it and are they wankers"

The problem with these kinds of threads is that they encourage people to find wrongdoing where before there obviously was nothing worth noticing. Wank should start when someone sees something fucky happening, not when someone is bored and paranoid and wants other people to create wank for their entertainment.

- "Here are all accounts belonging to a wanky player" -> "Wait I don't think that one is" -> "SURE IT'S NOT YOU WHITEKNIGHT"

In the interest of avoiding this kind of bullshit, because it has happened before, there's a general blanket policy now against going to lengths to track down someone's accounts. This is kind of a subjective thing, because if someone asks "who does this person play" in a less malicious context, you can still reply to that, and if you have a reasonable suspicion that one account is a known wanky player because you saw that account do something wanky, you can still post about that; the point here is to avoid unprompted, baseless tarring-and-feathering of random accounts.

Please also note all the qualifiers underneath. OOCly noxious or dangerous players like Stormy will always be special cases and we understand that. You don't need to have ten pages of sources cited to start wank, an anecdote about something you experienced is fine, just be prepared for the possibility of skeptical responses. You can still wank on people for being mediocre RPers, just don't try to paint a point of mild annoyance as an unforgivable wank crime and don't cry whiteknight when people tell you it's weak wank.

One thing this rule DOESN'T touch that isn't very well expressed because it's kind of a grandfathered-in case is the tradition of putting up headers for well-established games under Game Hate. That's something that's been happening for years and years and we don't think it contributes to the more recent problems, so you are free to keep doing it. We know that the distinction between this and empty headers for newer games is pretty weak policy-wise and for that I apologize, but fishing for wank on new games has been a demonstrable issue that we want to stifle so mods will be exercising judgment there.
5. Wank topics not related to DWRP are at risk for deletion. This includes, but is not limited to, Tumblr RP, Tumblr fandom wank, and inconsequential RL details on DWRP community members.
This rule is pretty subjective, since lots of non-DWRP things (we have a whole thread just for talking about canons) can have an effect on DWRP community and culture, which is why it's "at risk for deletion" instead of "will be deleted".

OOC conduct on Plurk that impacts how a player treats other players is generally considered related to DWRP (ex. being untrustworthy as a roommate, being emotionally abusive/manipulative, people being weirdly obsessed with terrorists and having OCs based on them), while completely off-topic things like medical history or home situation that have no direct association with anything negative about their RP presence are deleteable.
6. Use content warnings for commonly triggering/upsetting subjects. This means putting in the subject header what the content of your post is. Things you should warn for include, but are not strictly limited to, rape/sexual assault, child abuse/pedophilia, suicide, and self-injury. Comments containing graphic details of commonly triggering subjects that are not properly warned for are at risk for deletion if they are reported as a problem.
Pretty simple. We're not going to be up your ass about pillow triggers and shit, just the most obvious and widespread ones, and mostly just graphic details if that ever is a problem that crops up.
7. There is to be no hate speech on this comm. This includes, but is not limited to, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and misogyny. Threads involving blatant hate speech are prone to blowing up, and will be treated as spam or spambait, at risk for deletion or freezing.
The reason behind this rule is mostly that if someone posts about social justice shit it will eight times out of ten spawn huge aggravating arguments that nobody enjoys. It's not some kind of free speech issue, there are plenty of ways to insult someone without calling them an autist, exercise some creativity and you'll be fine.
8. Contentless, inflammatory, "spam", or "troll" posts are always at risk for deletion if they obstruct discussion or clog up the comm. This includes wild, unfounded speculation on anon identities meant to deter posting (ex. accusing any anon objecting to an accusation of being the accused party, or similar), death threats or insults, and any inflammatory remarks that are accompanied by no valuable information and add nothing to discussion.
Obligatory spam rule, for the most part. We're not going to be obsessively deleting your random chatter in the main post, but if spam starts happening in an obnoxious way we reserve the right to nuke it off the face of the earth.

More importantly, comments along the lines of "lol hi [subject of wank]" and "the whiteknights are out today i see" have caused problems in the past by shutting down disagreement with or rebuttal of minor wank topics, or even constructive amounts of skepticism and requests for proof. If you honestly suspect that someone is interfering with a thread, don't couch it in smugness and be prepared to actually argue your position, because shit like "you disagreeing with me proves i'm right!!! whiteknight!" is now deleteable. Anons have the right to express a range of opinions, and this kind of spamming deters honest posting and misrepresents the details of wank topics.

WHAT WE NEED:

Another mod who can help jump on things at times of the day when Sitter and I are at work/etc. The job entails tracking the report post and responding to reports, mainly by freezing threads/screening comments until Sitter or I can review them. The report volume on WG actually isn't too high, but since every now and then you get doxxing bullshit, it's important to have at least one hand on deck to get rid of that shit ASAP.

WG mods use PPs to quickly get a hold of each other, so you'll need to be comfortable sharing your OOC/non-mod identity with the two of us, and we'd like to bring on someone who has plenty of chill, because as a WG mod you will inevitably get bitched about and while some tryhardness is part of the learning curve it's best if you can let that stuff roll off your back.

All comments are screened. You can comment however you want - anon, sock, real account - but if we think you look good, we'll want to know who you are before bringing you on. We pinky-swear not to use this information for evil. The most important thing to post is your rough hours of availability (when you have internet access consistent enough to respond quickly to any notifs you get from the report page). You can also include some words/sentences about why you think you'd be a good mod, if you really want.
